Smiley, Wilda Helen

SMILEY –Wilda Helen born in Nanaimo BC on Feb.1st 1918. Long time resident of the Comox Valley, passed away peacefully at the age of 91, on May 20th 2009 in Duncan.
Predeceased by parents Ed & Carrie Handlen, sisters, Edna Marshall, Ethel Wilkinson and brothers Reg and Jimmy Handlen, first husband Monty Gore-Langton. Wilda is survived by husband Dennis Smiley, daughter Dixie Gore-Langton, son Robert (Sue) Gore-Langton, stepdaughters Marlene and Denise and stepson Ron. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Also survived by sister Norma Robson and several nieces and nephews.
Wilda attended school in Courtenay and worked for the BC Telephone Co. Wilda and Monty owned and operated “Happy’s Sporting Goods” from 1949-1969. Wilda loved to garden and along with Dennis, always sharing with friends and neighbours their abundance of fruits and vegetables from their garden. She will be dearly missed by husband Dennis, close family and friends.
Honouring Wilda’s request there will be no funeral service.
