MOON, Wilford Bentley

20 April 1939 - 27 October 2006

Comox, BC

It is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather Wilford Moon. Wilf passed away peacefully with family at his side at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox after a lengthy battle with cancer. Wilf exhibited extraordinary courage and a love for life and family to the very end.

Wilf was born in Lamont, AB and lived briefly with his family in Wilkie, SK, before moving to Courtenay, BC at the age of 10 for his junior and senior high school years. During high school and afterwards, he was an avid trumpet player and belonged to a number of local bands.

Wilf was transferred to Nassau, Bahamas with the Royal Bank at the age of 22. There he met the love of his life, Patricia Fox and married her on 10 November 1961. Wilf and his family returned to the Comox Valley in June 1977 where he opened the Comox Clothes Closet in the Comox Mall. The clothing store eventually blossomed into outlet stores in Campbell River and Powell River, BC. Following his foray in the clothing business, Wilf turned his attention to financial planning. He worked a short time for Investors Group and finally as a financial planner with Partners in Planning. He continued to work and serve his clients while he bravely fought the cancer.

Wilf was very active in the local community. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge (Tsolum) and was heavily involved at every level with the Black Creek Lions and Monarch Lions Clubs.

Wilf is survived by his loving wife Patricia, sister Vidonna Chauvin (Dave), sons Randy (Michelle) and Ian (Shannon), daughter Karen (Helen), and 10 grandchildren: Tabatha, Anthony, Dominic, Michael, Katherine, Brandon, Corissa, Kaysha, Allan and Aaron. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends in Canada, England and The Bahamas.

Wilf was predeceased by his parents Randle Corydon and Violet Mae (Parker) and brother Don.

A Memorial Service will be held on 6 November at 2:00 PM Courtenay Legion Branch #17, Pastor Ron Freeman officiating.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) in Wilf’s name.

The family would like to thank the numerous people who provided support during this trying time, with special thanks to Dr. Ron Brown, Pastor Ron Freeman and the St. Joseph’s Hospital 3rd floor staff.
