William Donald Sutherland
April 30, 1924 - September 23, 2008
Don smith passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2008.
He will be sorely missed by his wife, Edith, of 58 years; two sons: Richard (Kathy), Victoria, B.C. and David, Vancouver, B.C.; and his many relatives & friends.
Don was an only child, born in Liverpool, England and joined the Canadian Forces at a young age.
He worked and lived in parts of Europe, the States and Canada during his Forces career.
Following retirement, Don spent many years volunteering in the Comox Valley with the Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, and Cumberland Extended Care. He was an active member of St. George's United Church, Comox Valley Celtic Club and Courtenay Stamp Club. Don was an avid music lover, who enjoyed playing the piano.
Don & Edith enjoyed their travel times together to many different areas of the world.
At Don's request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
My heartfelt thanks to Home Care Workers, Nurses, Red Cross cupboard, People at Home Ladies, Life Support, Doctor Helmer, Dave Kelly, St. George's United members, Celtic Club, Dave Ward - Comox Valley Hospice Society Shirley Nieuwejaar, for all their support, help and assistance in the care and well-being of Don during the last several months. Apologies to anyone I may have forgotten.
We were fortunate to have such caring individuals working on our behalf.
