Passed away peacefully at his cottage on his beloved Hornby Island, on May 28, 2007. Survived by his wife Mary of Courtenay, BC and three children, Cindy of Port Alberni, Mark (Deanne) of Victoria, and Greg (Margie) of Nanaimo; eight grandchildren; Laura, Monika, Amy, Megan, Karly, Noah, Dylan, and Claire; and sisters Mildred and Jane, and brother Tom of Cambridge, Ont. Predeceased by sisters Muriel and Estelle, and brothers Pat and Fred.

Born June 22, 1933 in Galt, Ontario, Gerry moved west in 1952 to Calgary and then to Vancouver in 1958 in Kitimat, BC, he met and married Mary, where they soon started a family; eventually transferring for Gerry’s work to Port Alberni, Lytton, Clinton and Duncan, BC. Gerry’s career with the BC Liquor Board lasted 32 years until his retirement in the late 80s, after which he and Mary moved to Courtenay, BC, but spent much time at their property on Hornby Island which they have enjoyed since 1974.

In addition to his family, Gerry loved jazz music, walking the beach, sharing with his grandchildren his diverse collection of movies and books, and creating unique and tasty soups. An avid collector, Gerry was a founding member of the Port Alberni Coin Club, and also spent time in the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus.

Gerry will be sadly missed by his many friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry’s name would be greatly appreciated by the Recycling Depot, Hornby Island, BC, V0R 1Z0.

A Service of Remembrance in celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. from COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 1101 RYAN ROAD, Courtenay with Mr. Lawrence Burns officiating.
