Aggressive drivers dampen Comox cyclist’s commute

Dear editor,

What a gem, this little valley - three (and more!) distinct community identities, and the best outdoor adventuring one could imagine.

But my praise has been slightly halted in my first week of bike/work commuting from Comox to Courtenay. After a decade of school/work in Montreal and rural Manitoba, I’ve put in a good number of hours on the commuter saddle through the coldest those climes could offer. And you certainly can’t beat the vistas of Comox ave for a commute.

My ‘but’ comes from recurrent encounters by aggressive drivers - surprising, given otherwise chill vibe - once, an angry honking motorist as I gently signalled to pull around a trailered boat parked on the bike lane; again, as I signalled to avoid a doe following its mother into the bush.

We’ve enough patients - and perhaps not enough doctors - let’s not make more of one and less of the other. Safe biking makes better communities!
