Liberals don’t make for good TV viewing

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

I watched a program on local TV on Sunday evening. A half hour of Liberal candidates on the Island, paid for by the Liberals ($12,000 worth) and indirectly paid for by the big corporations (both Canadian and offshore) who wish to keep them in power. Or perhaps paid for indirectly by the taxpayers of BC. How would we know? I didn’t think to check if there was a disclaimer at the beginning making clear that it was political advertising.

This program was stunning in its hypocrisy. They talked about preserving the environment, while agreeing to Kinder Morgan and Site C. They talked about tourism, while gutting the BC Parks Service. They talked about supporting the disabled, while having cut the bus pass program. They talked about health care, while providing abysmal home care services and long waiting lists. They talked about seniors, while selling seniors’ facilities to offshore, for-profit companies. They talked about education, while gutting education funding and only finally giving some of it back after the Supreme Court forced them to.

Of course, right now they are handing out millions upon millions of dollars – but it’s an election year. Do they really think the BC voters won’t put that together?
