Whatever the reason, discharge is increasing

Dear editor,

Some blame de-forestation, others blame climate change, still others point the finger at BC Hydro and, of course there is the questionable wisdom of building on the flood plain.

Perhaps all of these have contributed to the problem.

FYI: The highest discharge in the Tsolum River was this year at 282 cm; the second highest was 278 cm in 2011 and 2010; the fourth highest 256 cm in 2007 and the fifth highest was 250 cm in 1966.

Whatever the cause, it does seem to be getting worse and more frequent.
