It was a wild time for two local box lacrosse players on Jan. 27 when the BC Junior A Lacrosse League held its 2013 Junior Entry Draft in Port Coquitlam.

In a very exciting day for the Comox Valley Lacrosse Association, goaltender Liam Reid went to the Victoria Shamrocks in the fifth round (37th overall) and top scorer Alec Molander  was selected by the Nanaimo Timbermen in the sixth round (42nd overall).

Both players were members of the provincial silver medal-winning Midget team this past season and have played for the CVLA Wild since near its inception in 2004.

Years of hard work and dedication paid off for 16-year-old Reid, who has been playing lacrosse since he was eight years old. He started off trying to score goals, but one practice in goalie gear made him think that maybe he should be stopping them instead. He started one game in goal as a first-year Novice player and never looked back.

Reid has always played on the highest level teams that the Comox Valley has had to offer, working hard to do his part to bring success to his teams and teammates. This past July he was the CVLA's President's Award winner.

Just before Christmas, Reid was invited to attend a Shamrocks' evaluation camp and impressed the evaluators. Shocked to hear his name called as he and his family watched the BCLJA draft online, he is excited and hopes to make his mark in the Rookie Camp coming up in Victoria in a few weeks.

The 2013 draft saw 48 players from Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland drafted by the eight B.C. Jr. A box lacrosse teams.
