The Comox Valley Strikers U13 Girls volleyball team made their debut this past Sunday in Port Alberni.
The 16 young women, most of them very new to the sport of volleyball, have been working diligently since the beginning of the new year under the knowledgeable direction of coach Kjeryn Mollerup and assistant coach Alia.
Their opponents from Port Alberni, in full uniform, including matching socks, looked confident and strong during the warm-up drills and nerves were high as the young Comox Valley girls funnelled onto their respective courts for the first time in a competitive setting.
The Comox Valley U13 girls, which had been divided into two smaller teams, succeeded in putting any intimidation they may have felt quickly into perspective. They used their newly acquired skills and hard work to dig up scores like 25-17, 25-20, and 25-12. Both of the young Strikers teams were undefeated in all five of their games.
"Congratulations to all the U13 Girls and thank you to coach Kjeryn and coach Alia for your time and expertise that you are giving to each team member," a team spokesperson said.
