On June 17, Tofino Paddle Surf and South Island SUP hosted the Technical SUP surf Canadian Championship in Tofino.
At 16 years old, Mia Wheatley-Maltais from Comox captured her fourth Canadian junior SUP championship, and in very challenging conditions.
“It was one of the hardest races I have ever competed in, the waves were seven-feet high,” Mia said. “I would have never been ready without all the training I’ve been doing for the past five years.”
Mia would like to thank her coach Stu Robinson for all the hard work to bring her to this level of competition, and her sponsor Comox Valley Volkswagen for believing in her.
