Male golfers on the far side of 50 are encouraged to join the Mid Island Seniors Golf Association (MISGA), which has been in existence for over 40 years.

MISGA members come from 19 of the golf courses in the mid-Island area between Storey Creek in Campbell River and Arbutus Ridge in Cobble Hill. Players need not be members of a club but should have an updated BCGA Handicap Index through the BCGA Players Club (BCGA membership costs $50 per year).

The objectives of MISGA are to promote friendly competition, and to encourage members to continue golfing as an active form of recreation. Tournaments are held each year at various golf courses. This year, there are 19 scheduled events on week days until Sept. 20.

A second objective is to keep to a minimum the golfing costs for members, particularly tournament costs. The cost for golf and a meal ranges from $40 to $69 including taxes. Prizes are modest and usually consist of golf balls for gross and net in two or three flights divided by the age of participants.

To join MISGA and take part in as many or as few events as you wish, visit www.misga.ca and find the MISGA rep at the nearest golf course. Each course where tournaments are held has a rep and alternate rep to process applications.

Those without a currently certified handicap can participate but would not be eligible for prizes.

The cost to be a member of MISGA is $10 in the first year and an annual renewal fee of $5.
