The Comox Valley is home to a custom-made tricycle to bring fun and adventure to seniors and people with special needs.

The trike, called The Love Buggy, is the brainchild of local cycle enthusiast Kris Hopping.

Kris has combined her knowledge of working with elders in the community with her love of riding bikes.

The fully insured Love Buggy takes people who have never been able, or are no longer able, to ride their own bikes. The passenger sits in the front in a wide, padded seat equipped with safety belt. The seat has adjustable foot rests and is also fully suspended for maximum comfort.

The Love Buggy is easily transportable to meet a passenger anywhere. If it’s a family bike ride around the Airpark, an adventure ride along Millard Creek or a leisurely spin around a familiar neighbourhood, the elder or special needs member of your family can join in or create their own adventure.

Want to check it out and maybe go for a spin? Please come and meet us at the Courtenay Grind found along the Airpark trail behind Midland Tools. We will be there dry Sundays from 2-4 p.m.

The Love Buggy is looking for passengers for the Canada Day 150 parade on July 1, and the Nautical Days parade in Comox Aug. 7.

Do you know somebody who used to love joining parades or has never been given the chance?

The Love Buggy will also be raising money for YANA (You Are Not Alone) by selling $5 draw tickets for the chance to ride as a passenger for the 25km YANA ride on Aug. 20.

For added fun, Sidney the therapy dog comes along in his own special seat on the back of the Love Buggy.
