Comox Valley bed and breakfast group chooses new leadership

At the May annual general meeting for the Comox Valley Bed and Breakfast Association (CVBBA), the new board of directors was officially announced for the 2011-12 year.

At the May annual general meeting for the Comox Valley Bed and Breakfast Association (CVBBA), the new board of directors was officially announced for the 2011-12 year.Colleen Torrie, co-owner of Torrie B&B in Courtenay, is the association’s new president.She has served as the secretary for three years prior to becoming president. She was also vice-president several years ago — serving more than five consecutive years on the CVBBA board of directors.Haideh Jordan, co-owner of Belle Vue Bed & Breakfast in Courtenay, continues another term as the vice-president.In this position, which she has held for the past year, she has also been responsible for the association’s marketing and an active liaison with the Comox Valley Economic Development Society and the tourism organizations on the Island for the past three years.Andy Whyte, co-owner of The Beach House Bed & Breakfast in Courtenay, is the association’s new secretary.Whyte served the association as president in the 2006-08 years.Dee McDonald, co-owner of Willow Guest House in south Courtenay, is continuing on as the association’s treasurer.She graciously filled a board vacancy last year and is continuing in her role for the coming year.Nico teWinkel, co-owner of Mulberryland, is the association’s immediate past president; he served two years as the president.The Comox Valley Bed and Breakfast Association is comprised of more than 20 B&Bs, guest homes and vacation rentals in the area.With a growing trend of tourists (and locals) seeking a home-like alternative to hotels and motels, especially for an intimate conversation about all there is to do in our Valley and on the island, this association is growing as well.   Benefits to membership include the opportunity to participate in co-operative marketing efforts; listing on the organization’s website and map; discounts at area businesses; alerts to scams and sharing of business ideas, resources, and “best practices.”Membership in this non-profit organization is open to all BC Tourism-approved accommodations that have fewer than four rooms in the Comox Valley.Visit www.comoxvalleybb.com for more information.— Comox Valley Bed and Breakfast Association
