The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) announced that Scott Smith will be the new general manager of Planning and Development Services starting Sept. 17.

Smith will oversee the planning, development, building, and bylaw services for the regional district and will be key in ensuring an integrated approach aligning to the CVRD’s key strategic priorities.

With more than 20 years of local government experience, 18 of which are within the senior management team at the City of Port Alberni, Smith has considerable experience. During his tenure with the City of Port Alberni he has been responsible for several large land acquisitions and development projects involving extensive project management, engineering services, and stakeholder relations. As well, he has been been the approving officer for the City of Port Alberni for the last 14 years.

“Scott’s approach to simple, straight forward processes and effective stakeholder engagement will be crucial moving forward,” said CVRD chief administrative officer Russell Dyson, who came to the Comox Valley from the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District in 2017. “Combined with his fresh ideas and effective leadership skills, we are extremely excited to have Scott part of our team.”
