The sale of Courtenay’s Level 10 Eurospa this past July marks the end of an era.

After 30 years in business, founding owner Leanne Boyd handed the keys over to long-time managers Carrie McCrindle and Crystal Rose.

A recipient of many awards through the years, the salon and day spa has long had a reputation for commitment to the community, its employees and the environment. As such, it was essential to Boyd that whoever took over maintain the standard of service for which Level 10 is known.

“Going into our 30th year in business, having accomplished all I had set out to do, I knew the business was perfectly positioned for the future,” said Boyd. “Handing the reins to Carrie and Crystal, I felt confident for its continued success. They’ll maintain the level of client experience we’re known for, as well as keep the team intact. Protecting the livelihoods of the people who enabled me to live my dream and celebrate three decades in business was paramount.”

“When she presented us with the opportunity to become owners, it seemed like a natural progression based on the involvement and loyalty we’ve always felt as employees of Level 10,” said Rose. “Leanne has created a beautiful space enjoyed by both clientele and employees over the years, and we’re excited to carry on that commitment.”

Originally called Level 10 Hair Design & Esthetics, in 1994 the business relocated to its current building. Eventually, it became Level 10 Eurospa – the Comox Valley’s first day spa. An original staff of four has expanded to upwards of 20 professionals – something Boyd is proud of.

“Providing employment for this many people has always been very rewarding. I strive to create an exceptional working environment that attracts the best in our industry, where employees happily want to be a part of the team for the long term. This, in turn, results in an atmosphere where clients have confidence, feel special and love to visit.”

As a certified Green Circle Salon, over 95 per cent of the salon and spa waste is diverted out of the landfill and waterways (over four tonnes since 2014) reducing the harmful effects the industry has on the environment. These initiatives will continue under the new owners.

“Leanne’s dedication to the environment, business, team and clients has always been inspirational,” said McCrindle. “As the industry changes and evolves, we’ll draw upon her willingness to go above and beyond and continue being just as dedicated to taking a lead position with current trends.”

Boyd will be staying on as part of the management team and as a hairstylist.

“It has been – and will continue to be – a seamless transition,”she said. “Carrie is continuing her role as spa Ddirector and Crystal as salon co-ordinator. So from our client’s perspective, everything is staying the same. And, of course, the rest of the Level 10 team is very supportive of the new leadership and excited for their future!
