Finances are among the top concerns during this pandemic. The shocking reality about people and finances needs to be told with many mired in debt.

The financial fitness of Canadians tells a poor and shocking story:

• 55 per cent of Canadians face unsuitable numeracy skills

• Only 46 per cent of Canadians have a budget.

• 4 in 10 Canadians disclose that money is a daily concern

A national not-for-profit literacy organization, ABC Life Literacy Canada is in the Comox Valley helping adult Canadians improve their money management skills.

Money Matters is a free introductory financial literacy program for adult learners.

Workbooks are used in classrooms across Canada, and are full of learning and activities that can be adapted according to the needs of individual groups. Workshops can be delivered by the staff of each community group delivering the program and-or with the support of local TD Bank volunteer tutors.

North Island College will have Money Matters Sessions on Oct. 28 and into Financial Literacy Month in November.
