Land & Sea Brewing Company’s Marina Mild beer has a temporary new name.

In an effort to give back to the community, the beer has been renamed the Mariner Mild to raise money for the people who were displaced by the Mariner Apartment flood. Fifty cents from each litre of Mariner Mild sold from now until Feb. 7 – the date of the Helping Hands Benefit Concert – will be donated to the tenants.

“We’re a community gathering spot and with the vacancy rate at less than one per cent … we just wanted to do what we can to give back,” said owner, Jason Walker. “Only one tenant had insurance and there’s not really a great mechanism other than insurance to help people out in these types of situations.”

The business also has a donation growler set up at the brewery and will be donating a silent auction item to the benefit concert.

Land & Sea Brewing Company opened in Comox in mid-December and Walker says he hopes the business can help make a difference in the lives of these Comox residents.

“We know that it’s never going to be enough money, but we’re going to help them reach their goals and help some people get back on their feet.”
