New networking group for businessmen starts

A new Comox Valley Men's Networking Group luncheon program has started to connect businessmen.

When Mona Warren, Mentor Me Consulting Inc., started the Comox Valley Women’s Networking Group in October 2009, she promoted the merits of this new organization as: “No membership fees. No board of directors. No speakers. No agenda. Just pay for your own lunch, exchange business cards with others, network, and have fun.”

“I had about 20 women attend the inaugural luncheon meeting and now, just 18 months later, I have a distribution list of over 200 women and get about 40 attendees every month,” explains Warren.

Warren started the CVWNG because she was new to the Comox Valley and wanted a way to meet like-minded businesswomen in a “no strings attached” casual setting. Dian Smit, Nerds on Site, has assisted her with the growth of the organization.

As a result of the popularity of the women’s luncheon program, Warren has now started a Comox Valley Men’s Networking Group, as well.

“The first lunch meeting for the Men’s Networking Group was held May 19, at White Spot Restaurant,” says Warren. “Eleven brave souls came out to the first event. Some were already acquainted through other organizations but, in several cases, new connections and friendships were made.”

“I would not normally have crossed paths with some of the businessmen I met at the luncheon,” explains Larrie Szafron, Prestige Video Transfer. “I found it very interesting and quite useful to have the opportunity to get to know these other businessmen … and to re-connect over lunch with others I have known for years.  I definitely plan to attend future meetings and I hope to see the group grow to be similar in size to the women’s group.”

“The women’s group is comprised of a vast range of industries … from banking, to beauty products, to realtors and more,” adds Warren. “I hope the Men’s Networking Group grows to the same degree. Whether you operate a home-based business or head a large corporate enterprise, if you are in business then you are welcome to attend the luncheons. My only request is that you sign up for the monthly email notification and RSVP so that I may give the chosen restaurant a ‘heads up!’ on the anticipated head count!”
