Annual Courtenay car show adjusts to COVID restrictions

Romeo St. Jacques Memorial will feature a live-streamed cruise

Rev up your engines or pull out your lawn chairs – more than 150 cars are hitting the road on Saturday, July 25 for an epic Comox Valley Cruise and you don’t want to miss the show!

“2020 has been quite a year of evolution for all of us as we adapt to new ways of doing things. Due to the restrictions set out by the Health Authority, Crown Isle Resort is not able to run this year’s Romeo St. Jacques Memorial Classic Cars on the Green in its traditional manner with cars displayed on their driving range,” said Crown Isle marketing manager Kristy Pedersen. “So this year they are being creative and taking the show on the road and online.”

Traditional hot rods and American muscle cars will hit the streets of Crown Isle starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, looping through Comox, Courtenay, Cumberland and all the way down to Union Bay for an approximately 2 ½ hour cruise.

Check out the cruise route map in the July 22 edition of the Comox Valley Record or online and plan your best viewing spot, whether from your front lawn or a spot along the route including the beach at Point Holmes, through downtown Courtenay, or the main drag in Cumberland. The cruise will be live-streamed as the cars roll past the Crown Isle front entrance. This, plus photos and bio info on registered cars, can be found at as a virtual car show to accompany the cruise.

The Romeo St. Jacques Memorial has always had a charitable focus, and this year Crown Isle is once again collecting funds for the Comox Valley Child Development Association. Please consider donating online if you are able.

There is still the opportunity to add your car to the cruise by registering online – please note that all cars are welcome, but only those within the criteria above will receive the registration package and bonuses.

“Crown Isle looks forward to continuing the tradition of the Romeo St. Jacques Memorial for its third year with a twist,” said Pedersen. “Although this year’s car show will look different due to the restrictions with COVID-19, this unique experience will be something we will all remember for years to come.”
