Bob Duncan will be speaking at the Comox Valley Horticultural Society meeting on Monday, June 17.

Duncan will be talking about “Growing Citrus & Sub-tropical Fruit Trees in South Coastal B.C.” \

Duncan trained as a botanist and entomologist, and worked for the Canadian Forestry Service as an entomologist for more than 35 years. Together with his wife Verna, they operate a specialty plant nursery and demonstration orchard near Sidney, which specializes in temperate, warm temperate, citrus, Mediterranean and hardy subtropical fruit trees.

With more than 45 years of experience growing tree fruits on Vancouver Island, their “Fruit Trees and More” demonstration orchard includes many varieties of tree fruits including a large selection of citrus and subtropicals. Other types of fruit trees grown include apples, pears, plums, peaches, apricots, nectarines, cherries, quince, medlar, kiwis, pineapple guavas, figs, pomegranates, loquats, persimmons, olives, jujube, avocado, pawpaw, and white sapote. The orchard is used as a teaching tool to demonstrate various training systems and cultural techniques for growing fruit trees.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The meeting gets going around 7:15 in the Conference Hall of the Florence Filberg Centre, 411 Anderton Avenue, Courtenay, BC. CVHS Members free, drop-ins $5.00.

Please join us in learning how we too can grow citrus and other subtropical fruit trees in the Comox Valley.
