On Saturday, the Cars 4 COVID cruise takes place in the Comox Valley.

Auto enthusiasts are uniting to support those on the frontline and others who are working through the coronavirus pandemic.

On Saturday, the Cars 4 COVID cruise takes place in the Comox Valley, following those held in Nanaimo and Victoria.

“We have a goal of $10,000 for all the cities,” local organizer Erik Vierstra said. “I think with last weekend in Nanaimo, we may be very close because on the weekend there was over $4,000.”

Island GM and Nanaimo Nissan each donated $1,500. Vierstra hopes local dealerships will consider matching the donations.

He said the Valley has held the event on two previous occasions, raising about $600.

Participants are to meet at the Comox Valley Sports Centre at 6 p.m. May 16.

Cars will leave at 6:55 p.m. sharp, drive up Veterans Memorial, pass by The Views (old St. Joe’s Hospital), head down Comox Avenue, drive by Point Holmes, pass by the base, then down Ryan Road towards Headquarters and back up to the Sports Centre.

Those wishing to donate can purchase a $5 Cars4Covid sticker for their vehicle. M2 Graphix, and West Coast Supercars and Classics are supplying them at cost. Proceeds go to the UBC/VGH COVID Research Fund.
