The Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce is proud to support the launch of Excel Career College’s AI in Aquaculture program—an innovative, 17-week, fully funded training initiative designed to prepare B.C.’s aquaculture workforce for the future.

As one of our valued corporate partners, Excel Career College has developed this program in response to evolving industry needs, in close collaboration with regional aquaculture leaders and community stakeholders—including the Chamber. We were pleased to support Excel’s successful funding application, contribute to program development, and will continue to be involved in an advisory capacity. After graduation, the Chamber will also assist students in finding employment opportunities within the industry.

“Excel Career College has shown leadership in building partnerships that truly respond to the needs of industry and community. This program is a powerful example of what’s possible when educators, employers, and local organizations come together with a shared vision. It’s proof that cross-sector collaboration drives meaningful, future-ready solutions.”

The launch of this program is a strong example of how educational institutions and local organizations can work together to create real, career-focused outcomes. As the aquaculture sector grows and evolves, the demand for professionals who understand both traditional practices and cutting-edge technologies has never been greater. This program directly addresses that gap.

Offered through a blended format, AI in Aquaculture combines online theoretical learning with in-person, hands-on training at Excel’s Courtenay campus. Students will gain a strong foundation in artificial intelligence, sustainable aquaculture practices, and industry-relevant digital tools. Key industry certifications such as WHMIS, Forklift, SVOP, CPR, and Confined Space are also included.

The curriculum explores timely subjects such as Introduction to AI and Digital Technologies, Ethical and Responsible AI Practices, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship, and the Integration of Traditional and Digital Knowledge. Work-integrated learning, including real-world practicums with local aquaculture operations, ensures students can apply their skills directly in the field—building confidence, competence, and connections.

British Columbia is a key player in Canada’s aquaculture industry, and programs like this help ensure that the Comox Valley continues to play a meaningful role in shaping its future.

By offering cutting-edge training right here in our community, we’re not just building individual careers—we’re contributing to a stronger regional economy.

The Chamber remains committed to supporting initiatives that align education, workforce development, and industry innovation. The AI in Aquaculture program stands as a shining example of what’s possible when we work together with purpose.
