Cameron Contracting Ltd. and Hyland Precast Inc. sought out to make the holiday season brighter for some this year but what they didn’t predict was the sheer generosity of the community during a pandemic.

Local individuals and businesses donated over $15,000 to the fourth annual Building Christmas Dreams campaign.

Once all donations were matched, over $30,000 was raised.

This season, Building Christmas Dreams helped 67 families in the Comox Valley, which was slightly more than what they were able to support last year. Many of these families received groceries and gift cards to be used for purchasing children’s toys; however, some other noteworthy donations included outdoor work gear, dentures, contribution towards rent payment, winter tires, vehicle repairs, and supporting a few families going through health emergencies.

“We want to extend a warm thank you to the many individuals and local businesses who provided donations and nominations in support of this year’s Building Christmas Dreams campaign,” said Kristy Shambrook, controller for Cameron Contracting Ltd. “It has been a difficult year for all and we feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to brighten the holidays for a number of local families.”
