Did you know that for the past 12 years your local AHERO (Ad Hoc Emergency Response Organization) has hosted a Frontline Resource Fair? On Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Lewis Centre, AHERO is once again hosting the Comox Valley Frontline Resource Fair, with support from the Campbell River, Courtenay & District Labour Council, and the Union for Protein Project.
Typically, the fair has been geared toward those in our community who are accessing services from one or more agencies and service providers themselves. For both the givers and receivers of support, the Frontline Resource Fair offers a flood of valuable information about local resources.
This year, organizers are encouraging a wider audience by inviting those in the community who are careworn but not yet connected with any local resources. AHERO understands and is eager to share its frontline services with you. Friends, too! Perhaps you know of a family or senior citizen or an individual with problems so complex they leave you feeling powerless to help. Well, this fair may open a door or two for you and your friend.
Admission is free. In addition to providing information on local programs and services, there will be opportunities to connect with an RN (from the Nursing Centre) in a private setting. You may also get your hair cut at no charge. There will be activities for children, a free adult and children’s clothing table, giveaways, draws and a free chili lunch with hot and cold beverages.
Consider dropping by the fair and informing yourself about the many (emergency and non-emergency) resources available in the Comox Valley. Meet the large array of service providers face-to-face as you wander down the aisles checking out their tables. Get your questions answered and maybe even have an ‘ah-ha’ moment or two.
Comox Valley AHERO was founded in 1994 and addresses health, homelessness, emergencies and gaps in service for those living in poverty. This unassuming yet influential collaboration of resources is dedicated to offering the Frontline Resource Fair each year.
