Grand Knight Wayne Schaad (right), presents a cheque for $2745.94 to Arnold Lamb of the Sonshine Lunch Club. The money, raised locally by the Knights of Columbus in their 2017/2018 Charity Appeal, is a contribution towards the $30,000 required for renovations to St. George’s United Church, where the Sonshine Lunch Club provides warm food and companionship to the less fortunate in the Valley.

The congregation of St. George’s United Church in Courtenay worked hard to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. All funds raised were matched by their Community Outreach Committee, resulting in a donation of $4,674.80 to support a 10-unit affordable housing project on Lake Trail Road. In addition, St. George’s donates sandwiches once a week, to feed build volunteers, through the Sonshine Lunch Club. The church will also donate all proceeds from this year’s Christmas Eve service to Habitat for Humanity. (Left to right: Ellen Wise, Rev. Ryan Slifka and Terri Perrin (Habitat).
