Gateway Gives, an initiative that is shared companywide with Gateway Casinos and Entertainment, has donated $1,524 to the Comox Valley Mental Health and Substance Use organization to assist with their ongoing and important work in the community. Once a year Gateway Casinos and Entertainment empowers their employees to find a cause within their community to donate to in order to give back to their community and this selection was made by Chances Courtenay’s own Stormi Wright.

The congregation of St. George’s United Church in Courtenay worked hard to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. All funds raised were matched by their Community Outreach Committee, resulting in a donation of $4,674.80 to support a 10-unit affordable housing project on Lake Trail Road. In addition, St. George’s donates sandwiches once a week, to feed build volunteers, through the Sonshine Lunch Club. The church will also donate all proceeds from this year’s Christmas Eve service to Habitat for Humanity. (Left to right: Ellen Wise, Rev. Ryan Slifka and Terri Perrin (Habitat).
