It is estimated that more than 9,000 homes in the Comox Valley utilize onsite septic systems.
Septic systems are used in rural areas to treat wastewater where there is no public sewer system. Unfortunately, many home owners are not aware of how to properly maintain their systems.
Regular maintenance and proper care is required to keep septic systems working properly and prevent premature system failure. They can provide effective, long-term wastewater treatment for homes not connected to a sewer system, but can also pose health and environmental risks if not cared for properly. Neglecting your system can also be harmful to your pocketbook as a full system replacement can cost up to $50,000.
Efficient water-use practices and regular pumping and inspection are just some of the important things homeowners should do to keep their systems working properly. It is a homeowner’s responsibility to ensure their septic system is safe and being properly maintained. Homeowners are required under provincial law to ensure their system is not causing a public health hazard.

Attendees will receive an informative presentation followed by a Q&A session. While the workshops are free of charge, participants are encouraged to register, to reserve a space.
