Comox Valley Regional District offices closed to public, landfill remains open

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is taking precautionary measures in support of the Public Health Agency of Canada and the BC Ministry of Health and their efforts to contain the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

CVRD Updates:

The Comox Valley Pollution Control Centre closed to the public.

The Comox Valley Regional District Office at 770 Harmston Avenue is closing to the public, as of 4:30 p.m. March 23.

Comox Strathcona Waste Management Centres will remain open at this time and residents are encouraged when visiting the landfills to use debit or credit card to limit cash handling.

Until further notice, four rural fire stations of Fanny Bay, Oyster River, Denman, and Hornby Island are closed to all unauthorized visits as precautionary protection for our volunteers and staff so they are able to respond to an emergency.

“Based on the Ministry of Health call this morning, the CVRD is taking extra measures to protect the staff who are providing your essential services,” said CVRD chief administrative officer Russell Dyson. “It is at this time we need to work together for the betterment of our community. The more we do to flatten the curve on spreading the virus, the better shape our community will be in.”

Residents who are needing assistance can call 250-334-6000 for general inquiries and 250-334-6006 for inquiries related to business or property development applications.

The CVRD is working with the Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland and City of Courtenay to collaborate on response measures and best practices. The CVRD is standing by if support is requested at the federal or provincial level and information will continue to be shared as it comes available at: www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/covid19. Further updates will be provided as more information comes available.
