Have you ever wanted to join a sorority but thought you needed to go to university? Well now you can.

Within the Comox Valley is a sorority of ladies known as Beta Sigma Phi. It is an international organization that has been in the Valley for 60 years. There are 11 chapters within the Valley alone, ranging in ages from 20-year-olds up to 99. To help continue our sorority we also have legacies, daughters and granddaughters who attend functions to carry the torch one day.

Each chapter meets various times each month to socialize and organize community activities. As one chapter puts it: “Anything we can do to put our hearts into it, we do.”

These are community-driven ladies who take it upon themselves to enrich this beautiful valley where we live with donations of time and money to various charities and organizations. YANA, the Care-A-Van Program, food bank, blood donor clinics and the Canadian Cancer Society are a few. From Casa Loma donations to the Comox Valley Pregnancy council, it seems no charity goes untouched by these kind-hearted ladies. No matter what the charity, this diverse group of women take it upon themselves to see no charity is forgotten. From Amethyst House, the Child Development Centre and North Island Festival of the Arts to collecting Campbell’s Soup labels and Canadian Tire money. Their kindness has even extended to the Lubasi Home orphanage in Livingstone, Zambia.

Christmas, of course, is when these ladies shine by gathering winter attire for the needy, and supporting the Christmas Hamper program.

Spouses are often included in social gatherings, giving husbands an opportunity to create new friendships and to witness these amazing women in action.

Their meetings are interesting and educational as each lady displays her areas of interests and passion.

Life, Learning and Friendship is their motto, and personifies a group of extraordinary women who make the Valley that much nicer.

If interested in showcasing your talents and beauty, then Beta Sigma Phi may be for you.
