As part of the AGM, the organization is looking for new board members who are interested in leading fundraising or social media/promotion efforts (the latter role can be done by making a few posts a week from a smartphone). The Toy Library is also always looking for volunteers who can assist in operations by cleaning and organizing toys, signing them in and out, and helping members to their cars.

Many newcomers to the Comox Valley are connecting with their new community through involvement with the Toy Library.

Sandra, the inventory manager, was looking for a place to meet people and contribute to the community after moving from Ontario. Sandra says she has found “wonderful volunteers who made me feel welcome and valued”, and as a retired librarian she enjoys providing an important low-cost service to young families and grandparents.

Lindsay, the incoming volunteer co-ordinator, recently returned to the Comox Valley.

“Moving to the Valley during a pandemic could have been very isolating”, said Lindsay. “But volunteering with the Comox Valley Toy Library Society has been a great way to meet new friends and have a lot of fun.”

For $20 annual membership, members can ‘check out’ toys for their children to play with for a month, and then exchange for new ones. The library offers a variety of items suitable for ages from 0-6, including baby gear, vehicles, puzzles, and blocks.
