Comox Valley Unitarian Fellowship hosts interactive service

In honour of International Women’s Day, the Comox Valley Unitarian Fellowship invites women and men to join an interactive service.

In honour of International Women’s Day, the Comox Valley Unitarian Fellowship invites all women and men of the Comox Valley to join an interactive service.

It happens March 9 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Comox United Church at 250 Beach Dr.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. Visit www.internationalwomensday.com to learn more.

More than 100 Canadian events have been posted to the site. In addition, the Canadian government and the British Columbia government have official websites that are easy to access.

The global theme for 2014 is Inspiring Change. If you cannot be part of a March 8 event, perhaps this Sunday service will be an inspiring event.

Unitarian fellowship services are held on the first and third Sundays of each month and the consulting minister is Rev. Meg Roberts.

The March 9 alternative service will be held in the church hall with a circle seating arrangement to permit more active participation. There will be no offering but a donation basket will be available with all monies going to the Comox Valley Transition Society.

Service Leaders are Betty Donaldson, president of the Canadian Unitarian Universalist Women’s Association; Lynda Campbell, chair of the CVUF Adult Lifespan learning Committee and Dandelion, a professional drama therapist.

Kazminea Sokil is the music director.

A feature of this service will the Living Portrayals of various aspects of women’s lives over time and in our time. They include symbols of the maid, mother and crone, historical women of faith, and notable women achievers.

Be astonished by glimpses of how women’s apparel has changed through the ages. Costuming, draping and active narration provide a stimulating, amusing and thought-provoking experience. Discussion and coffee to follow.
