Cyclepaths raising money for hospice

The Comox Valley Hospice Society is excited to announce its first-place team of 11 riders training for the Cycle of Life Tour ride, working hard to raise awareness and funds for the 1,000-plus people the society serves each year. This includes people who are dying, caregiving and grieving whether at home, in long-term care, in hospital or in Hospice at The Views, and those coming to CVHS outpatient offices.

The Comox Valley Hospice team – the Valley Cyclepaths – consist of Marika Galik, Amber Aleksich, Derek Berg, Raida Bolton, Liz Brown, Nigel Brown, Christopher Kippel, Margaret Lam, Heather Roberts, Wille Scott and Juliana Leahy. The team has raised more than $12,000. Let’s keep them in first place!

Since 2011, the tour has raised over $700,000 for hospice care on Vancouver and the Gulf Islands.

On July 20 and 21, 125 riders representing hospices from across the region will embark on a two-day cycle tour of almost 200km through the Saanich Peninsula, Cowichan Valley and Gulf Islands to raise funds. All money donated to the Cyclepaths remains in the Comox Valley.

Visit www.cycleoflifetour.ca to donate or to join the team as a virtual rider.

The society is also seeking donations of new or gently used items for a yard sale May 11. To have items collected, email reception@comoxhospice.com

The public can meet some of the team at these locations around the Valley:

•May 11 - Yard Sale, 2234 Grant Ave. in Courtenay;

•June 1 - Quality Foods, Comox;

•June 29 - Thrifty Foods, Crown Isle Plaza.
