Dancers shine in Nanaimo

Five dancers from the Comox Valley performed well last weekend at the Island Fantasy Ball in Nanaimo, the B.C. championship

competition with international guest dancers.

The top-ranked ballroom dancers in the world from Denmark and the third-ranked dancers in the world from Hungary competed.

John Burke and Doreen Thompson placed third in Senior 3 Bronze Standard, Senior 1 Bronze Latin, Senior 3 Bronze Latin and Senior 1 Pre Bronze Latin as well as being finalists in Senior 1 Bronze Standard.

John Blyth and Daphne Simpson finished third in Adult Newcomer Standard and second in Adult Newcomer Latin. They placed first in Senior 3 Latin. Blyth and Simpson tied for first in Senior 1 Latin, but settled for second after a tiebreaker.

Cathy Snyder finished first in Pro Am Newcomer Solo Quickstep and Pro Am Bronze Quickstep. She was invited for an encore solo performance dance at the evening’s gala, one of two soloists

invited back.
