Due to construction on Fifth Street, the Courtenay Canada Day Parade and Fifth Street Mile are starting from Harmston Park on Sunday.

Preceding the 10 a.m. parade, the annual mile race will start from the intersection of Sixth and Kilpatrick at 9:30 a.m. The race finishes at Simms Park. Unlike previous years, runners will complete a clockwise lap of a gravel trail at Simms before finishing near the gazebo.

Food and water will be provided to all participants.

Runners are asked to arrive early (8-9 a.m.) to register for the free event. There are awards for the top age-group finishers.

Nick Accardo posted the fastest time last year with a blazing 4:25.

The parade starts at the same intersection. It goes along Sixth, turns left at Fitzgerald, then proceeds down Fifth, across the bridge and into Lewis Park.
