Comox Valley Schools Careers Department will host an information evening on Jan. 21 at G.P. Vanier Secondary on the Dual Credit Academic certificate programs and courses and Youth Train in Trade programs available to all Grade 12 students.
The event is open to all students, parents and community members who are interested in learning more about early entry opportunities for high school students to complete college-level courses while still in high school. The credits are fully transferable to institutions across B.C. The information night will be divided into two sessions:
Dual Credit Academics (6:15 – 7 p.m.)
Students in Grade 12 may sign up to take one or more ‘100’ level college courses, or a certificate program that supports them in transitioning into a career, or down a career pathway. There are many courses and certificate programs available through North Island College that provide smaller class sizes and have supportive instructors who are keen to engage new learners in areas of passion.
Dual Credit Trades (7:15 – 8 p.m.)
Students in Grade 12 who are interested in hands-on learning, working in the trades, and engaging with peers on projects may want to register in a Youth Work in Trade program. There are many trade program opportunities that have talented Red Seal instructors ready to support students as they enter a trade of interest. Students will also work in their chosen trade while gaining hours that could earn them a $1,000 award.
The session begins at 6:15 p.m. for the academic program and at 7:15 p.m. for the trades program. Come for one or stay for both.
