Hope! Joy! New Life!

These are all themes of Easter Sunday. A time to celebrate; a time to rejoice.

All of these elements will be evident as St. Peter’s Church invites the community to join together on Easter Sunday morning at the Comox Recreation Centre. This celebration will begin at 10 a.m.

“So often, all we hear about is bad news. It can get overwhelming. On Easter Sunday - we join together because there is very good news,” said Rev. Jim Lyster, the parish priest. “There is hope. There is peace because of the resurrection of Jesus. We warmly welcome people from across the Comox Valley to come and join the celebration.”

For the last several years, St. Peter’s has moved its Easter Sunday Service to the Comox Recreation Centre. “The bigger space lets us invite our friends and neighbours to join us,” said Lyster. “It also gives us room to be more creative with dance and flags and drama.”

This Sunday of the Resurrection Service Easter morning service will have a true spirit of celebration. Powerful music is being prepared. Both traditional hymns and modern songs will be sung, including an Easter version of the popular song Hallelujah. There will be a trumpet playing with Jesus Christ is Risen Today.

A dramatic presentation early in the service will allow people to consider the experience of Mary as she encountered the empty tomb.

Liturgical dancers lead in worship at two points in the service. Large worship flags will also be used as part of the celebration.

There will be no formal nursery or Sunday School for this service, however activity packages will be available for all of the children. In addition, a quiet play zone will be set-up.

Children are invited to take part in an Easter Egg Hunt following the service. This fun annual activity is set-up by the Youth Group.

All will find a very warm welcome. There will be no books to juggle - you will find it easy to join in.

Refreshments will be served after the service.

Those wishing a quieter Easter Morning Service are welcomed to worship at St. Peter’s Comox at 8 a.m.

The Comox Recreation Centre is located at 1855 Noel Avenue in Comox. This Easter Service will be on Sunday, April 16 at 10 am. For more information, please call 250-339-6416.
