According to a recent BC Hydro survey, one in three British Columbians expect their next vehicle to be an electric, yet it can be challenging to figure out the issues of range and charging infrastructure, or to even find an EV at your local dealership.
An electric car and bike show on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Comox Valley Sports Centre parking lot (3001 Vanier Drive) aims to change that locally. Move2Electric will be the Comox Valley’s first major electric vehicle (EV) event, featuring electric cars from local dealerships, electric bikes from local bike shops, speakers, displays, and even an electric canoe.
The EV-curious will have an opportunity to check out a variety of zero-emission vehicles including a Tesla, and sign up to test drive a Chevy Bolt, Nissan Leaf and more on a first come, first served basis. There will be an EV owners speaker series and panel discussion to share travel stories, debunk myths on EV ownership, and provide detailed information how to access up to $16,000 in incentives for purchasing a new electric car.

For those interested in e-cycling, Amped Rides, the Broken Spoke, Black’s Cycle and Trail Bicycles will have e-bikes available to test ride. As well, there will be a variety of vehicles for show-and-tell by their owners, info booths and activities, food trucks, and a prize draw.
The event aims to be as environmentally friendly as possible – attendees are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottles, and those who arrive by bicycle will enjoy secure bicycle parking hosted by the Comox Valley Cycling Coalition.
If you want to get up to speed on EVs before the big event, the World Community Film series is hosting an entertaining and educational film called What is the Electric Car? on Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at the Stan Hagen Theatre at North Island College.
