Family Day at Filberg Park in Comox

The Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park is certainly the gem of the Comox Valley, but do you know the history of the property? Who were Bob and Florence Filberg and what did they contribute to the Comox Valley? Do you know the story behind the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association and that for the past 40 years they have been the stewards of this fantastic community space?

Who were Bob and Florence Filberg and what did they contribute to the Comox Valley? Do you know the story behind the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park Association and that for the past 40 years they have been the stewards of this fantastic community space?

We would love the opportunity to share our stories with you. You are invited to join us on Monday, Feb. 18 from

11 a.m. to 4 p.m., as we kick off B.C. Family Day and the beginning of Heritage Week in B.C. In conjunction with the Comox Museum and Archives and with a grant from the BC Museums Association and the Province of British Columbia, we hope to have something for everyone to enjoy.

We will have storytellers here throughout the day to regale you with stories of days gone by. There will be some live music on our newest acquisition, a 126-year-old baby grand piano, much like the one Mrs. Filberg used to own. There will be displays and demonstrations and hands-on demos by the Denman Island Lace Club, who are also celebrating 100 years in 2019 and the wool-gatherers will be demonstrating spinning, one of Mrs. Filberg’s many hobbies. Outside by the well, there will be a display and hands-on demos of some vintage tools, like the ones that may have been used to build the lodge and outbuildings on the property. A display of vintage fashions from provided by Linda Hargreaves will round out the day. The wonderful Filberg Gift Shop, which specializes in antiques and collectibles, will be having a sale, 20 per cent off silver and crystal so you can take home a little piece of history. This is a family friendly event with no admission charge. Light refreshments of coffee, tea and cookies will be served.

It will be a day of history and culture for the whole family to enjoy.

If you are unable to attend on the 18th or would like to further browse this historic facility, the Lodge will be open for the remainder of the week. The photo and clothing displays will be here for your viewing pleasure from Feb. 19-24. The gift shop will be open and tours available during the week as well, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week.

FHLPA memberships will be on sale in the Lodge on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the month of February.
