The newly appointed Minister for Seniors, Filomena Tassi, was a guest of L’Arche Comox Valley on Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Arriving with a full complement of staff, Tassi toured the I Belong Centre and interacted with a cross-section of the L’Arche community.

She was warmly received and the 45-minute visit concluded with a large, happy group photo!

L’Arche CV boasts a large roster of volunteers, the majority of which are seniors. In part as a result of this, L’Arche CV has applied for and received a number of grants for seniors’ projects through the federal New Horizons for Seniors program. Tassi was following up on the most recent project, the Art of Belonging, an artist-led art workshop that partners adults who are differently-abled with other participants to create personal and collaborative artworks.

The Art of Belonging first began three years ago, and takes place in February and March.

It offers a uniquely inclusive setting to explore personal creativity, under the charismatic leadership of Saskatchewan artist, Dean Bauche.

Anyone interested in participating in the Art of Belonging or volunteering at L’Arche Comox Valley can drop by the I Belong Centre at 1465 Grieve Ave. in Courtenay, or get in touch by phone 250-871-6288.
