Members of the Courtenay Fish & Game conservation committee and the Comox Valley chapter of the Steelhead Society gather chum carcasses from the Puntledge Hatchery.

The group takes the carcasses - approximately 5,000 each year - from the hatchery to the headwaters feeding into Comox Lake, and disposes of the carcasses there.

“The carcasses decompose naturally, and feed the baby fish.

BC Hydro supplies the transportation money, Budget offers a good rate for the truck rental, hatchery staff supply the fish, and members of the aforementioned groups supply the manpower to keep Comox Lake as a healthy, live lake.
