Glacier View Lodge (the Lodge) is pleased to host this year’s Grand Parade from Sept. 11 to 18 after a year of pause.

Despite the event being cancelled last year, Glacier View Lodge is excited to host the event once again — this time virtually — to benefit the lodge’s residents.

“Glacier View Lodge holds a high standard for caring for its residents,” said Roslyn Smith, committee co-chair. “The Grand Parade allows access to additional funds through fundraising so that residents can truly feel like they are at home at the lodge. It’s more than just an interior update, it’s a commitment to our seniors.”

The last 17 months have been especially challenging for seniors living in care homes, with many spending long days in residence away from their family and friends. Funds raised from this year’s Grand Parade in the Comox Valley will be allocated to the lodge’s interior redesign of communal areas including accessible furniture for residents with dementia. This year, the lodge hopes to meet its fundraising goal of $30,000. Currently, 11 teams and 27 walkers have raised over $27,000 with less than a month away from the week-long event.

“The Grand Parade is much more than a fundraising event. It is an opportunity to honour, remember and celebrate family and friends who, as elders, have given us so much,” said Leslie King, fundraising development committee member. “I have a long-time, personal connection with the lodge as my grandmother, mother and an aunt have called it home. My parents even helped build the original lodge. The funds raised will have a far-reaching impact and long-term benefit for seniors and their families and friends in our community.”

Celebrating seniors, one step at a time, this year’s virtual Grand Parade is open to anyone, anywhere looking to fundraise and contribute to the continued well-being of current and future residents of Glacier View Lodge.
