Highland grad receives Kotcher bursary

PAIGE THURSTON RECEIVES the Jean Kotcher Leadership Bursary from committee members Hayley Datoo and Jennifer Scott-Hibbert.

The 2012 Jean Kotcher Leadership Bursary has been awarded to Paige Thurston, who is graduating from Highland Secondary.   Paige plans to complete a course in therapeutic riding and aims to pursue studies to be a horticulture technician.

The Jean Kotcher Leadership Bursary recognizes a graduating student who demonstrates leadership and active participation in school and/or community service.

The bursary was established in memory of Jean Kotcher by her family and members of the community who valued Jean's exceptional contribution to the lives of her students and their parents, her colleagues and her friends.  Jean is remembered as an inspiring and nurturing teacher who excelled in many leadership roles while serving her profession and community, always committed to the pursuit of social justice through due process.

The Jean Kotcher Leadership Bursary is administered by School District 71. Donations to the bursary can be made to the Jean Kotcher Leadership Bursary and forwarded to SD71, 607 Cumberland Rd., Courtenay, B.C. V9N 7G5.
