July 1 committee ready for a party

After what has seemed a very long, cold winter season, we are ready for a party.

This year, Courtenay’s big party, Canada Day, will happen on a Friday, and that means everybody will be in the city to celebrate.

Is your organization or business looking for a good way to earn some money and also serve our community?

Apply to put a food, craft or information booth in Lewis Park on July 1. Applications can be acquired at Courtenay’s City Hall or, even easier, you can get your applications on the website www.comoxvalleycanadaday.ca.

Bring you tasty foods to eat and interesting products to see and sell. Your booth at the July 1 celebrations helps make the event enjoyable, and the money earned is great too.

The Canada Day celebrations this year will see thousands of people enjoying a day full of many activities — the Fifth Street Mile is famous. The parade down Fifth Street will stream everyone into the park to your booths.

Booth applications are encouraged to be submitted early to secure the best locations in Lewis Park, especially if you require power.  Remember that all food booths must have a “food safe applicator.”

Because of the road closures to facilitate the Fifth Street Mile foot race and the Grande Parade, all booths must be set up early, and no access is possible after road closures are in place, so plan ahead and bring all your goods with you.

It is projected that a record number of people will be in the park because Courtenay’s Canada Day is the best day for family fun with lots for children's activities to do and music to enjoy.

The July 1st Committee encourages all interested groups who wish to have a booth in the park on July 1 to get their application into Courtenay’s City Hall as soon as they can.

The prime spots in the parks will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis, and applications will be numbered as they are received.

It is recommended that people download the application on the website as a reference, fill out the application and either mail or deliver it to City Hall with their fee. The committee is requesting that the receipt, as proof of application, must be kept and displayed when setting up in the park on July 1st to help facilitate allocations of space in park. To enter Lewis Park, please use the totem pole entrance.

The food booths that supply the yummy treats we all enjoy play a large part in funding the Canada Day celebrations.

Rental of all the equipment, prizes, children’s activities, paying  a small honorarium to the very generous entertainers who are so much a part of the day, etc., are costs the volunteer organizers of this great day  have to account for on a small budget.

The goal of the July 1st Committee has always been to give the people of the Comox Valley a party that the family can enjoy at as little cost as possible, from the fantastic Night Before Concerts in Simms Park on June 30 to the extravaganza in Sid Williams Theatre July 1 at 7 p.m.

Have your booth help make the day great.
