Kites fly high at Goose Spit on Father's Day

City of Courtenay holds 34th annual event

For the 34th year in a row, kites flew high over Goose Spit Park this father's day.

Dads, moms, grandparents and people of all ages came down to Goose Spit for the annual event this year. Despite clouds on the horizon, the wind was strong enough to hold kites aloft and bring smiles to the families' faces far down below. The event, held from noon until just after 2 p.m. attracted families who spread out across the whole beach.

The City of Courtenay, alongside Pal Aerospace and Salt n Sage photography and a number of other sponsors helped out to provide prizes for people's choice, stunt kite, oldest pilot, largest kite, hard-luck flyer, homemade kite and more.
