The Kiwanis Club of Courtenay for the past 15 years has bought, packed and delivered school supplies for seven Comox Valley elementary schools.

Kiwanis works very closely with each school’s administration to ensure the needs of specific individual children are met according to each school grade list.

The Kiwanis budget 15 years ago started out at $7500 per year and quickly increased to $10,000. The schools Kiwanis has the pleasure of helping each year are Arden, Aspen, Royston, Cumberland, Queneesh, Ecole Puntledge Park and Courtenay.

The parents or guardians are notified a few months in advance that their children will be helped. A week before school starts, the parents go to the school to pick up a full year of supplies for their child. This organized program has been well received throughout the many years and will continue to serve our Comox Valley elementary schools.

Active in the Valley

The Kiwanis Club of Courtenay also supports the Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program by donating part of the tuition for a child oncologist training at the Vancouver Children’s Hospital. Kiwanis is the full financial support of Operation High Jump for physically and mentally challenged children and adults. Kiwanis is also responsible for the management of the 64 unit Kiwanis Village. Continuing education bursaries to local students for university and North Island College degrees are given out yearly and Kiwanis’ well known Junktique puts thousands of dollars toward children’s projects.Their yearly Sing A Long movies at the Sid help enable the purchase of needed items for our hospital’s pediatric ward. Kiwanis continues to support the Comox Valley community as they have for the past 69 years.
