Make mandalas, not war

You can make this Valentine’s Day special, and honour your own heart with playful mandala-making.

You can make this Valentine’s Day special, and honour your own heart with playful mandala-making.

Creating mandalas is an ancient art practice that encourages us, in contemporary times, to find our centre and create balance in our lives. This slow, deeply meditative art process allows us the opportunity to open to the moment and create personal sanctuary through art-making, amidst a hectic pace of life. It can shift our perspective and allow wondrous transformation to occur — and in a group setting, it’s a bouquet of fun.

To experience the amazing effects of this whimsical and deeply satisfying tradition, join Odette Lincoln Warner for a free women’s Valentine-mandala workshop, on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1957 Arden Rd. in Courtenay (off Cumberland Road, second driveway on left, after mailboxes. Park at top of driveway; enter round building at rear of property.)

No previous art experience necessary. Donation of $5 for supplies suggested. Bring drink and snack for break.

Using beautiful guided visualizations, warming aromatherapy and silky meditative music, participants will watch their personal symbols emerge from the procreative darkness of black paper and bring them to life with coloured pencils, journalling and small group discussions.

Emerge from this mandala-making session well connected to your own particular jewel-like wisdom, encouraged, lighter of spirit and eager to step peacefully into the next moment.

Regular sessions begin Feb. 15. For more information, contact Odette: moonlightmandalas@gmail.com or 250-331-9339.
