On Saturday, Oct. 11, 44 myeloma patients, family and friends attended the second annual Myeloma Education Day at the Best Western Hotel in Courtenay.

Myeloma is an  incurable but treatable rare cancer of the bone marrow. There were 75 new cases diagnosed on Vancouver Island in 2013.  As early diagnosis is important the group is currently working on an awareness initiative targeted to family physicians, physiotherapists and chiropractors.

The North Island Myeloma Support Group meets the third Tuesday of each month to provide support, education and advocacy for patients and caregivers. For further information contact Ian 250-757-9248 or Linda 250-923-4055.
