The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) directors, along with residents, officially opened the One Spot-Tsolum North trail in Dove Creek on Wednesday. The One Spot-Tsolum North trail connects the parking lot of Tsolum Spirit Park with the existing One Spot trail that extends to Teachers Creek near Fitzgerald Road.
“This is another significant linkage of our trail network as outlined in the regional district’s parks and greenways strategic plan,” said CVRD Director for Puntledge-Black Creek (Electoral Area ‘C’) Edwin Grieve. “We appreciate how the stakeholders, including the local farming community, TimberWest, neighbours and user groups, came together to make this project happen.”
“We are pleased to see how these trail improvements contribute to recreation opportunities for our residents and visitors to enjoy now and for years to come,” said CVRD Board Chair Bruce Jolliffe.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) owns the land and has continued to be supportive of the regional objectives for advancing the One Spot trail as an important recreation and active transportation corridor. MOTI granted the CVRD permission to construct and maintain the trail.
These most recent improvements to the 1,100-metre trail, which is designed for cyclists, walkers and horses, entailed grade control, gravelling, ditching, and installation of cross culverts and sign posts. The Fitzgerald to Headquarters section continues along the former logging grade for an additional 725 metres. This section bisects lands owned by TimberWest.
