Parts of the No. 6 Mine Park in Cumberland will be closed for a time, while the village completes some work at the site.

The village is undertaking some small-scale tree health and safety works at the site during the spring.

Once the work is done, the parks department will conduct forest restoration work through spring and fall to improve habitat diversity and resilience within the park. The restoration work will include designating natural revegetation zones, adding mulch to protect garden beds and tree roots and installing a broader range of native plant species with a focus on increasing habitat and foraging opportunities for native wildlife.

Several areas of the park may be temporarily closed during the tree work, but information signs will be put in place ahead of time and there will be staff present to watch for pedestrians. During this time the village is asking the public to respect staff and contractor safety by staying out of the park until works are complete.
