The Vancouver Island Avalanche Centre Society’s Party for the Bulletin fundraiser goes Jan. 28 in Cumberland.

Sweet tunes and an amazing selection of auction items will be up for grabs at the annual Party for the Bulletin fundraiser in support of the Vancouver Island Avalanche Centre Society (VIACS), being held Jan. 28 at the Riding Fool Hostel in Cumberland.

DJ Skian will be spinning tunes while partygoers and winter enthusiasts peruse the silent auction offerings that will feature donated gear and clothing from Arc Teryx, Smartwool, K2, Helly Hansen, and Backcountry Access, art from Tracy Kobus and Clive Powsey, as well as other donated products and services.

In addition, locally brewed beer from Cumberland Brewing Company will be on tap alongside slices of delicious Ryders Pizza.

“The party is a great way to come out and celebrate winter, score some new gear and support the work of the avalanche bulletin,” says VIACS president David Kallai.

VIACS is run by a volunteer board of directors who all share a passion for backcountry winter recreation.

The avalanche bulletin service is free to the public, however VIACS depends on grassroots fundraising to cover the costs of professional avalanche forecasting, web hosting and other modest administration costs.

The bulk of this fundraising occurs at the Party for the Bulletin in January followed by the Backcountry Festival and Mount Cain.
