PHOTOS: Pride parade in Courtenay downtown

See what happened Saturday, Aug. 26 in downtown Courtenay

The first-ever Pride parade marched down 5th Street in Courtenay this afternoon (Aug. 26), attracting hundreds of visitors.

Parking spots were in short supply at the city’s downtown core as locals flocked to the streets to watch and wave. Parade sights included jeeps, floats, cheerleaders, and a lot of ROY-G-BIV.

Queer Culture, a Courtenay event planner, began organizing the event months ago. Council gave the OK back in May, which meant closing 5th Street from 11 a.m. to 1:30p.m.
